(About Dan Home) (Last) (Next) What's Wrong With Mom?"Hey, Brother Sam, thanks for the ride," said Dan. "No problem," replied Brother Sam. "Sure you're ready?" "Time will tell." They turned into the parking lot. Dan cleared his throat, uncertain about proceeding. "Uh, Brother Sam, I’m worried about my mother." "Whazzup, Dan?" "She’s so tired all the time. Argues more than usual, like she’s frantic or something. I know she’s seeing doctors, but she won’t tell me anything." "Dunno, Bro. You wanna talk to the bishop?" "No, she’d pitch a fit." Brother Sam pulled into a parking place near the door and helped Dan into his wheelchair. Other churchgoers gathered to gawk, but Brother Sam pushed him doggedly into the foyer. Lisa was sitting on the couch, talking contentedly with Justin Matterly. When she saw Dan coming through the door, she jumped up as though she'd been stung by a wasp. Dan pretended not to notice. She quickly changed her expression to one of pure pleasure. "Dan! Oh, I didn't think you could come back so soon. How are you feeling? Are you ok?" she gushed. "Hi, Lisa, Hi, Justin. Did you do something to your hair?" "Dan, I did something to my hair a month ago! You ask every time you see me. Can't you remember anything?" She reached for Dan's hand. Dan smiled. "Me? No. Just looks pretty, that's all." "You getting better? Going to the game this Thursday? I hear it’s against Anderson again." She paused, then looked slightly embarrassed. "To watch, I mean. I'm going to be there, too." She touched Dan's hair. "Uh, sure." Dan had forgotten the schedule. "Yeah, let's watch together." |
