Dr. Jones' Report

Dr. Jones was so cheerful. A compound fracture of the left femur, just above the knee. Several centimeters of "contaminated" bone removed, whatever that meant. A long metal pin. Then there was the matter of his knee itself. "I don’t know about that," he’d said cheerfully. "Might take a while." There were cheerful words about physical therapy and maybe a second operation. He’d be in the wheelchair for a couple weeks because he wasn’t to chance putting any weight on his knee. Then crutches. Then a walking cast. After that, maybe a brace of some sort. Time would tell. Lots of time.
