(About Dan Home) (Last) (Next) Another Revelation"A sister? I didn't know you had a sister." "She died about six years ago from some weird disease. I was ten. It happened just before you moved here." "But I've never heard your folks talk about her. There aren't any pictures on the walls or anything." "Well, Dan, I guess you've just uncovered another secret. You need to promise me that you will never, ever mention it to my parents." He was deadly serious. "My mother never came to terms with it. My folks used to be religious, but their faith died with my sister." Dan was silent. He leaned on his cane and studied the floor. "You know what the sad part is, Dan?" said Peter. "No" said Dan, very quietly. "I still don't know what my sister died from. She was really little, like only one year old." Dan met Peter's gaze. There was an oddly haunted look in Peter’s face Dan hadn't seen before. He heard a commotion outside. He motioned to Peter, who opened the front door before they could even knock. It was two sisters from church. "Hello, is Dan here?" one asked. Peter wasn't able to speak yet, so he just opened the door wider and pointed at Dan. |
