Lance Tries to Say "Thank You"
Lance reached for the telephone and dialed.
"Boulder Valley Pet Store, this is Lillian Hardesty."
"May I speak to Phillip, please? This is his father."
"Oh! Is anything wrong?"
"No, just wanted to tell him something."
Phillip’s wary voice came on the phone. "Hello?"
"Hi, Phillip. Thanks for the referral. I appreciate it."
"Huh?"
"Coach Johnson is going to buy a custom computer table."
"Oh—yeah—he asked me where to buy it."
"He says you talked with him on Thursday morning."
"I suppose so. I don’t remember."
"I just thought it was interesting."
"What’s interesting?"
"Well, after the Scout meeting Wednesday night."
"What happened at the Scout meeting?"
Lance paused. "Oh, nothing. I just thought it was interesting."
"Ok. What does that have to do with furniture?"
"Uh, nothing, I guess. Anyway, thanks for the referral."
"Ok, you’re welcome. So what did you call about? Is Mom ok?"
"No, just called to say thanks."
"Cool. I’d better go."
"Ok, son, thanks. Bye."
