(About Phillip Home) (Last) (Next) Dear Saint RichardDear Saint Richard, How’s my brother doing in the frozen north of St. Petersburg? You picked an interesting place for your latest transfer. I read about St. Pete in history today. Guess what? Your little brother Phillip can do something after all. Guess who won his event today? And set a track record? That’s right, you’re not the only one to go into the Park record books. So there, big brother! And, no, I wasn’t thinking of you at the time, either. All I could think of was that stupid tape in front of me and that my lungs were going to explode. So go have some ice cream on your prep day and celebrate that Phillip can actually do something! I dunno about your advice. Every time I try to go along with Dad he manages to do something. I thought tonight’s dinner would be a pretty pleasant affair, you know? Winning the event and all? He hardly even says congratulations, then he starts dumping on me about my grades. Well, I’ve never gotten more than C’s and a few B’s, well ok a D in English, but somehow I’m still alive, you know? So why does he pick the day I win my event to jump all over me? Mom kept trying to change the subject and Grams kept telling Dad to stuff it—she’s so tactful—but Dad was all red in the face, so I finally grabbed my dinner and finished it in the backyard with Wolfgang. By the way, Wolfgang’s fine. Mom’s fine. Martin’s Martin. And Dad is, well, Dad. How you did it I’ll never know. You know I quit Scouts, right? I’ll let you and Martin be the Eagles in the family. Tell all the people in Saint Petersburg that your real name is Saint Richard. Love from your little brother Phillip (and your baby brother Martin says hi) |
