(About Phillip Home) (Last) (Next) The OrdinationBishop Parker closed the door. He turned to Phillip. "Are we all here?" "Yes. No. Where’s Grams and Martin?" Margo jumped up. "Oh, I left them in the foyer. I’ll be right back." She left the door open. Lance grimaced. He turned to make small talk with Bishop Parker and Brother Sam. After several seconds of silence, Melanie sat down next to Phillip just as Martin ran into the room. "What’s going to happen?" she whispered to Phillip. "I’ve never been in a Mormon church before. Do they do something to you?" "They take turns beating him," said Martin happily. Before Phillip could respond, Margo was helping Carmen into the room. Phillip rushed to hold the door so Carmen could get her walker disentangled from the doorknob. "Who’s this?" bellowed Carmen. "Is that you, Melanie? I didn’t think you were a Mormon!" "I’m not," said Melanie quietly. "I just came to see Phillip." "Well, that’s two of us. Let’s keep these people honest, shall we?" Carmen settled into a chair next to a wide-eyed Melanie and patted her on the knee. Margo settled in on Melanie’s other side and Lance sat next to Margo. Martin opted to sit next to Carmen. Bishop Parker closed the door, pulled one of the wood chairs away from the wall and placed it in the middle of the room. Phillip, without being told, sat in the chair. Dan stood behind Phillip, Bishop Parker to his right and Brother Sam to his left, forming a small circle around Phillip. "Do you know what to do, Dan?" asked Bishop Parker. "Yeah, I think so. Phillip, what’s your full name?" "Phillip William Maceda." "William?" "Yeah, it was my dad’s favorite uncle or something like that." Dan cleared his throat and put his hands atop Phillip’s head. Bishop Parker laid his hands atop Dan’s. Brother Sam put his hands atop Bishop Parker’s. "Brother Phillip William…" started Dan. "Dad," interrupted Phillip. Lance glanced up. "Aren’t you going to join the circle?" asked Phillip. Without replying, Lance stood. He stared at his son for several seconds, his eyes bright. He crossed the room and stood beside Bishop Parker. He laid his hands atop the others already on Phillip’s head. Dan took a deep breath and began again. "Phillip William Maceda, by the authority of the Aaronic Priesthood, we ordain you a priest in…" |
